Coach Matt Medvecz brings a wealth of experience and a deep-rooted passion for hockey and player development to the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals. A former player with a sharp hockey mind, Matt has successfully translated his on-ice experience into a coaching career dedicated to developing confident, intelligent, and fundamentally sound athletes.

Matt’s playing career began at Shattuck-St. Mary’s, followed by junior hockey with the North Iowa Huskies of the USHL, where he captained the team in his second year. His performance at the junior level earned him a spot playing NCAA Division I hockey at Miami University (Ohio). During his tenure with the RedHawks, Matt was named the team’s Defensive MVP in the 1999–2000 season and served as a team captain during his sophomore, junior, and senior years. He went on to play professionally in the ECHL, UHL, and CHL.

Matt has a long-standing history with the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals organization, having held the role of Director of Player Development and having served as head coach at multiple age levels. Matt has been instrumental in guiding hundreds of athletes to the next level, including placements in junior leagues, NCAA Division I and III programs, the AHL, NHL, and Olympic teams. In addition to his coaching career, Matt has contributed to the game as a scout for the Waterloo Black Hawks of the USHL, further broadening his perspective on player evaluation and development.

Matt’s coaching philosophy is anchored in strong skating fundamentals and shaped by a modern perspective on the game’s evolution toward speed, creativity, and positionless play. Matt believes that every player should be equipped with the skills and hockey IQ necessary to understand and excel in any position on the ice. His approach fosters well-rounded, adaptable athletes who can think the game, respond effectively to dynamic situations, and make meaningful contributions in all areas of play.
