Marcus grew up in Antigo, WI playing hockey for the Antigo Youth Hockey Association. Marcus won a Peewee A State Championship prior moving onto to High School Hockey. Marcus played High School Hockey for the Antigo Red Robins, winning the Wisconsin High School State Title in 1993. Marcus was selected to play in the Chicago Showcase for Team Wisconsin prior to wrapping up his High School playing days.
Marcus played Junior Hockey for the Bismarck Express (now Bismarck Bobcats NAHL) following High School. Marcus played DIII Collegiate Hockey at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire (UWEC) for the Blugolds 1994-98. Marcus received several awards while at UWEC in 1994 including the Richard G. Obrien Award (most outstanding leader), Most Dedicated Player Award, as well as the Super Six Award (post-graduate award academic and athletic leadership).
Marcus has a BA in Criminal Justice, and a Masters of Public Administration. Following his college playing days, Marcus coached Summer AAA hockey in the Appleton area as well as High School Hockey with the Neenah Rockets as Head Coach for the Junior Varsity. Marcus has coached youth hockey at the following associations, Appleton Area Youth Hockey Association, Columbus Chill Youth Hockey Association, and the Arrowhead Youth Hockey Association. Marcus served as the Mite Director for Arrowhead Youth Hockey Association for two years prior to joining MJA in 2015 as an Assistant Coach. He has been a Head Coach in the program with the Boys and Girls programs since 2017. Marcus has served a number of years as an Assistant Coach with the NIT Team Wisconsin Junior Class. Marcus also evaluates for the Wisconsin Amateur Hockey High Performance (HP) tryouts and Festivals. Lastly, Marcus coaches CCM Selects for the 2006 age group.
